Moncellier
Sauvignon Blanc, 2009
New Zealand White
Marlborough 75cl
Sample; new label to me, I have tried this, the Pinot Gris & Pinot Noir. This Sauvignon was quite classical in style, less tropical fruit and more the blackcurrant and graphite style with some underlying herbaceousness - though the odd thing that struck was that it had more in common with many of the 2008's rather than the so-far consistently more impressive 2009's. I tried this against 2 other Sauvignon's that we stock, the Tinpot Hut and the Bishop's Leap - one more expensive and one less expensive. Both of the other wines were noticeably more intense, purer and even cleaner in style. The Moncellier lacked the depth and purity that the other 2009's have exhibited.
